Planning a budget-friendly vacation to Mallorca can be difficult, whether you're traveling alone or with your family. I've made my fair share of travel mistakes, and now I'm here to save you the trouble of exceeding your expenses on overseas trips. But honestly, the most important tip before you even arrive on the island is to book an affordable Mallorca vacation in advance. Keep in mind that it is possible to experience Mallorca travel on a budget. Here are several ways you can spend less and have more fun at Spain's hidden gem in the Mediterranean this summer.
Eating like a local is the best way to save money on meals while traveling to Mallorca. We learned this firsthand. When walking the streets of Mallorca, look for the restaurants where locals eat and "avoid tourists", and you're most likely to find delicious food for under 10 euros for two people. Above all, I recommend MIM Döner Kebab as the best location in Port Alcudia for some local dishes.
Using the hotel shuttle saves you money on multiple levels. On the days we decided not to go to Palma or Port de Pollenca, the hotel shuttle was a lifesaver. The hotel shuttle only operated for 3 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the afternoon daily. But I'm sure every hotel shuttle schedule varies, so check your hotel's shuttle bus policies.
Using public transportation can also be budget-friendly for you in Mallorca, but above all, you should keep in mind that there is no transfer and the fare for your bus ride depends on the distance traveled. The bus from Alcudia to Palma cost us 5.30 Euros per person for a one-way trip, compared to 1.55 Euros we paid for a bus from Port Alcudia to Alcudia.
Palma is the capital of this island and considered the busiest area in Mallorca. Surely there are accommodations here that fit into any budget and any Mallorca trip. The accommodation options include downtown apartments, bungalows and cottages, and of course the villas with fantastic views. When deciding on accommodation, you can try looking for private vacation homes that are rented to tourists. These usually start at around 10€ per person per night. Not only will you save hundreds of euros on hotel costs, but choosing a rental house will give you the real feeling of living like a local on the island.
Whether you are traveling alone or with family and friends, whether you are visiting the island of Mallorca affordably in the summer or in the off-season, you will find countless accommodation options to suit every budget. From downtown to villas, holiday bungalows or mountain huts, with or without a pool, you will enjoy the island and feel at home - mostly in a spacious, comfortable space so that you can experience your Mallorca vacation affordably and luxuriously.
Furthermore, with prices starting at around 10 euros per person per night, you can save and use your budget to see the rest of the island. Unlike hotel rooms, these are usually private premises where your requirements are met. Private owners willing to advertise will always give you a good deal in terms of your privacy and comfort. The big secret is knowing what your preferred type of accommodation is - location, amenities, number of rooms - and also things you can give up to get an even better price. If you are traveling with friends, even as couples, hotels may be a bit above your budget. This is the right time to rent a private apartment. Managed by owners, they are always clean and convenient, so you would return to the same place.
The main attraction in Mallorca is the beach. While swimming and sunbathing on the beach is free, you will need to pay for beach chairs or umbrellas, which cost about 7 to 9 euros for all-day use. If you stay in a beach hotel, it is worth checking if there is free use of these lounge chairs. Playa de Muro is a beautiful place for families as the water is shallower and safer for children. Connected to the beach is the Albufera nature reserve, the largest wetland in Mallorca. There are also exciting water parks like Aqualand El Arenal, which cost 75 euros for a day trip if the ticket is purchased online.
Now, when traveling with your family or friends, especially outside the city, everything changes. Instead of paying separate tickets for everyone, you can make your Mallorca vacation affordable by renting a car. There are many car rental options in Mallorca, and some are really, really cheap based on the number of days you plan to travel around the island. This will make your Mallorca travel easier as you won't always have to rely on public transportation.
