Long journey to the other end of the world

The start in Frankfurt was already great thanks to an upgrade to business class :) So the 5 1/2 hours to Dubai passed by quickly. The layover there wasn't very exciting: lots of people from all over the world, tons of duty-free shops, and very tired faces. After a double security check, we boarded the next A380 plane, which was a bit chaotic but without any problems. Despite the 16-hour flight, several babies around me, and less comfort, it was eventually done. Auckland greeted me with dark rain clouds, but with a very friendly ground staff :) The immigration process was surprisingly pleasant and I was able to get everything I needed without any problems. Also, the pick-up went smoothly and we headed straight to Mt. Eden. The climb was a relief for my heavy legs and the view over Auckland was still impressive despite the cloudy sky. Eventually, the sun came out, which unfortunately I felt immediately this evening. Thanks to the ozone hole, you really shouldn't leave the house without sunscreen here.

Afterwards, we went to Gulf Harbour, where we took a short detour to a waterfall and then enjoyed a beautiful beach walk. In the evening, we went to two more beaches while walking the dog. The nature here is simply indescribably beautiful! And when you're surrounded by parrots and sheep, you don't know what to say anymore ^^ It was definitely an absolutely wonderful start to the vacation :)
