Now the inevitable had finally come. The last day of our trip was on the agenda. We had to vacate our cottage in Santa Barbara by 10 o'clock. We managed to fit all our luggage in the car just in time. So we set off towards Los Angeles. On the way, we made our first stop on Highway No. 1. There were dozens of surfers in the water in a beautiful bay. It was very nice to watch them and we would have loved to try it ourselves. It is admirable how effortlessly they play with those big waves.
After a while, we continued our drive along the famous beaches of Malibu and Santa Monica. We looked somewhat enviously at the expensive villas along these beaches. Finally, we reached Manhattan Beach. It is located right at the end of the Los Angeles International Airport runway. Planes take off over the beach every minute. We watched the hustle and bustle for a while during a last lunch at the beach bar. We also observed the huge columns of smoke from the wildfires in the hinterland of Los Angeles. Then it was time to go to the airport. First, we had to return the car. It wasn't easy to find the right entrance, so we drove around a few corners in the area. This is not easy with the tremendous traffic.
Finally, we were able to return the car and we arrived at the airport on time with the shuttle.
The flight back home was long and boring. We took off just before dusk and flew through the night for the first five hours. The sun rose over the coast of Canada. However, since we were flying further south this time, we only saw clouds and water until we reached France. The weather improved only after Paris, and we were able to enjoy the approach over Switzerland, via Basel, Fricktal, and the Southern Black Forest. We even spotted Erlinsbach and the PSI was also very nice to see. So I was already in the mood for the coming time again during the approach.
We were picked up at the airport. Since not all passengers fit in the car along with the luggage, some of us traveled by train to Aarau, where a taxi was already waiting for us.
And with that, our unforgettable trip comes to an end. We will need the next few days to process many impressions.
