So dear people,
Today, as announced, I was in Funchal (the capital). My tour started with a visit to the local farmer's market 'Mercado dos Lavradores'. The market is particularly known for its rich selection of fish. Those ugly black fish with the nasty teeth are called black scabbardfish. The filet is used to make the Madeiran national dish 'Espada con banana', which is still on my to-do list! :)
After that, I visited Fort São Tiago. Attached to it was the Museum of Contemporary Art of Funchal. Impressive works! After that, I went to the 'Madeira Film Experience' to improve my knowledge of Madeira's history. On the way home, I tried another Madeiran delicacy: 'Bolo do caco' - a traditional sweet potato bread, which in my case, was filled with ham, cheese, and garlic butter! To finish off, I had a coffee before I started writing the blog (see laptop photo). By the way: the local beer 'Coral' also tastes fantastic!*g*
Now I'm going to look for a nice restaurant for dinner. Maybe today is the day of the scabbardfish?! ;)
UPDATE: Yes, there was scabbardfish with bananas. There's a photo as proof in the gallery.
Best regards, Kevin.
