In Rio de Janeiro we had a small problem with parking, as our hostel advertised free parking. But thank God parking wasn't so expensive. On the day of our arrival, we went to a few shopping centers because we really felt like shopping. There we also met a Santa Claus who had white hair and beard and waved to Kathrin to sit on his lap. Since Kathi wasn't sure if he meant her, he stood up and took her wishes. As we were leaving, he asked us how we find women in Brazil.
On our first day, we went to the botanical garden, which is said to be very beautiful, but compared to the others we had already seen on our trip, it couldn't really compete.
Then we went up to our second destination, the new seven wonder, Cristo Redentor. We were also a bit lucky, since it is still preseason and the weather wasn't particularly nice, there wasn't much going on and we quickly went up, got good photos and quickly went back down.
In the evening, we treated ourselves to some Caipis, as they only cost half the price during Happy Hour and it is the national drink of Brazil. The next day, we visited Copacabana - the party place of South America. We walked along the beach for a while and visited some souvenir shops to get a Brazil flag.
Then we took the cable car up to Sugarloaf Mountain. When we arrived at the top, the weather cleared up and we enjoyed the view. Right at the station on the mountain, there was also a poster where we wrote our names. On the way down, we made another stop at the middle station where we enjoyed a really good lunch.
After spending some beautiful days here, we made our way back to Sao Paulo where we returned our rental car and took our flight to Lima.
