Sunday: After sleeping in, I went with all my roommates to the San Telmo flea market, as it was recommended to us independently. In the narrow streets, there were various stands with all imaginable products. Street musicians kept the crowds entertained. After lunch, the group split up to visit different neighborhoods. I went to the Palermo neighborhood, where there was a food festival in an old bullfighting arena. Then I visited the Japanese and Dutch gardens. Locals and tourists relaxed in the parks, listened to live music, rode paddleboats, or played sports. It was a very pleasant and relaxed atmosphere, especially with good weather!
On Monday morning, I took the train to Tigre, about 30km away (for about 0.50€, just like the subway in the city!). This town is located directly on the delta of the Rio Parana. I explored the area along the promenade and took a boat ride on the tributaries. In Puerto De Frutos, there were various shops and, of course, fresh fruit and juices. In the evening, I went to the concert 'La Bomba De Tiempo' once again.
For Tuesday, I booked the 'Graffittimundo' tour. This non-profit organization leads groups through the neighborhoods of Colegiales and Palermo-Hollywood, showing the numerous (political) graffiti and providing background information on the different movements and artists in Buenos Aires. Highly recommended!
After that, to celebrate the last evening, I had an Argentine steak, and it exceeded my expectations!
On Wednesday morning, after 10 days, I continued with the ferry to the Uruguayan town of Colonia Del Sacramento. This former smuggling hub is only 50km away from Buenos Aires on the other side of the river delta. Here, there are mostly cobblestone streets, many old buildings, and various cafes and restaurants that have their charm. On Friday, I will continue to Punta Del Este by bus.
Regards,
Kai
