Actually, I had already finished writing the entry last weekend, but I forgot to upload it :D I just extended it for this weekend :D I know it's been a while since I last wrote, and I'm sorry, but there's been a lot going on during the week.
For a few weeks now, I've been going back to college. I chose the AutoCAD course, as it's a good preparation for architecture, which I probably want to study when I'm back in Germany.
Inauguration of Trump... I saw a bit of it and have to say that I found it quite boring. My host family is divided on him. Some of them like him, while others don't. I don't like him and I'll see what else happens now.
On the following weekend, I went to the aquarium with some other au pairs because admission was free. We had to wait two hours to get in, but it wasn't really a big deal because we really got along well. The aquarium itself was really nice and beautifully decorated, I just thought it was a bit small for such a big city.
On the weekend after that, there was the Super Bowl, which is a really big deal here in America. Almost the whole family came together at our place, there was special food and we were really excited. The best part of the evening was that my host family's favorite team won. After that, there was a great atmosphere in the house :D
On Thursday after that, I went to the fire department with the youngest because he didn't have school that day. It was really cute to see how much fun he had and how excited he was. The firefighters were also really impressed with him because at two years old, he asked a lot of questions.
On Saturday, I drove alone to Chicago to explore the city. I went to the cinema in the evening to watch the movie "The Space between us".
On Sunday, we had a cluster meeting where the other au pairs and I ate pizza and played bingo. It was pretty funny, even though we felt pretty old doing it :D
On Tuesday, it was Valentine's Day, which of course is also celebrated here in an exaggerated way. The kids had to bring something for each classmate to school. In the evening, Grandma, Grandpa, an uncle and an aunt with their cousin came over and we had a big dinner.
On Saturday, I went to the cinema with a friend to watch the musical "Newsies". On that day, there was an exceptional situation here in Chicago because we had 21 degrees. Of course, we thought that was great and after the cinema, we went for ice cream. It's just the complete opposite of the temperatures you usually have in February here, which are normally around -21 degrees.
On Sunday, I walked through the town to take photos so that I can remember everything for a long time.
Since the Wednesday before last, we have a little puppy. Her name is Honey and she's only about two months old. She's super cute and it's really nice to have a dog here. But of course, it's also quite exhausting because she's not house trained yet and she wants to eat everything outside. So you really have to keep an eye on her all the time.
On Thursday and Friday, we had two birthdays. The oldest had his birthday on Thursday and the youngest on Friday. We celebrated both on Friday because the father was still on a business trip on Thursday. We had the favorite food for both and the requested cake. The little one got a fire truck cake and I made the cake for the oldest. He just wanted a plain cake with a vanilla icing.
On the weekend, I actually wanted to go to Chicago with another au pair. But we had to postpone it to this weekend because she got sick.
The day before yesterday, we went up the Willis Tower together. The tower is higher than the Empire State Building in New York City. It was really breathtaking up there because you can really see very far. There were also balconies made entirely of glass, even the floor, which was really cool. In the evening, we went to eat a real Chicago-style pizza. It was really delicious.
