A day full of nature today, but unfortunately also the first day where it drizzled almost all day. We were lucky and never really got in the rain, but the sky never cleared up completely.
This morning we first drive to the Old Man of Storr. It's quite windy and we don't go all the way to the base of the rock, but almost. We set a time limit because we want to see a lot today. After 30 minutes of climbing, we turn around.
Now the real adventure begins, because our next destination is Neist Point. Grandma was terribly skeptical and not entirely without reason, because the road is really not ideal for our size of motorhome. We bravely fight our way to Neist Point through the 14 km super narrow, steep and bad road. Once we have turned in, there is nothing else left for us to do because we can't go back. It must be hell in the summer when vehicles constantly come towards you. We are lucky and the traffic is moderate. Nevertheless, it's not easy and we are relieved to arrive, but always with the thought 'We have to go back soon' and with the uneasy feeling that just where there was a 16% slope, the road was super narrow and super bad. Hopefully we won't meet a vehicle right there! Starting on the hill at the slope is impossible!
But first, we take a lunch break, have some tea and eat something. It's raining heavily, so we don't have to get out anyway and walk to the famous lighthouse. When the lunch break is over, we set off. This time, grandma fits, which is better because the path is wet and slippery and once again very steep uphill and downhill.
The view is a bit misty, but still great, so we took a lot of photos!
After about an hour, we are back at the motorhome and make our way back. However, it goes better than expected. It makes a big difference when you know that the road gets better the longer you drive and when you already know the difficult passages from the way there. We definitely make it back safely.
After that, we head back from the island. Like all the previous days, endless beautiful panorama. The colors are incredible, they don't come across as well in photos and the vastness and solitude of the island is amazing.
Our campsite today is not far from Eilean Donan Castle, but we have actually fulfilled our quota of medieval castles now and we are glad that after a long drive and two hikes today, we are sitting in the warm motorhome and don't have to do anything anymore!
