Day 29 Bogota - Leticia Off to the Amazon

ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਿਤ: 19.01.2023

Leticia, a small airport right on the Amazon. We got off the plane, walked across the runway, and there we were. I like airports like this.

We went to get some money, had a snack, and then waited for the boat that would take us to Puerto Narino. Everything was a bit chaotic, but by now we're almost professionals at: Let's wait and see what happens. We left around 2:00 pm. It was a strange feeling to actually be right on the Amazon. It is very wide and contains a lot of driftwood. Stops are made periodically and people get off. After about 3 hours, we reached Puerto Narino. Edgar and the translator are already waiting for us. Today we are the only guests in the group. Also nice. We weren't quite sure what to expect. We booked it because it wasn't too expensive. But so far, we are pleasantly surprised. It doesn't seem quite professional, but it's totally okay for us.

Puerto Narino is located 75 km upstream from Leticia and is living proof that humans and nature can live peacefully side by side. Cars, except for a special ambulance and a garbage truck, are banned. Water is collected in cisterns and electricity is generated by the city's energy-efficient generator. Every morning, a team of citizens sets out to clean the beautifully paved footpaths. Trash cans are common here and recycling is also done. A real eco-village.

We were shown our accommodation and given 30 minutes for a little break. Then we went to a viewpoint and felt the evening atmosphere on the Amazon. It was very nice to see from above. Then we tried on rubber boots and off we went on a jungle hike. It was already dark, our guide walked ahead and whenever he saw something, he illuminated it. It felt like tarantula day today. We saw several specimens. Farina even spotted a harmless snake. Frogs (poisonous), spiders, and grasshoppers of all kinds showed themselves to us. There was buzzing and fluttering everywhere. Then we went to a local restaurant. Here we were served rice, fries, and vegetables.

Afterwards, we went to our eco-accommodation, run by a 70-year-old grandma.

Tomorrow we will continue, really exciting and beautiful. I'm so grateful to experience this.
