Day 23+24 Gythio-Mountains between Sparta and Kalamata

In Gythio we stayed at the campsite where I visited Greece for the first time in 1986, back then with a motorcycle. It feels strange to realize how the years go by. We have now handed over the planning for how to proceed to our children. They only have 5 days left. The ferry leaves on Friday. With the current heat (often around 39 degrees), we all agreed to spend a night in the mountains to cool off. So yesterday morning we set off towards Sparta. From here, the mountain road to Kalamata begins. In between, we visited the old shipwreck near Gythio. It broke free from its moorings in the port of Gythio in 1981 due to a storm and stranded on the beach of Valtaki.

We have once again found a nice place to stay overnight. We are not alone, but that's okay.
