The Danube near Engelhartszell offers a picturesque natural setting. The banks of the river are lined with dense forests and hills. A ferry crosses the Danube to Jochenstein on the other bank. It operates only in the summer season and carries only pedestrians and cyclists. The ferry is called "Donaunixe Isa" because it is named after a local legend. Legend has it that in the waters of the Danube lives a water nymph named Isa who is well-disposed towards the people of the region.
In addition, several works of art are set up on the banks of the Danube, as well as an old ship's propeller and large rock formations that the Danube has washed out. Sculptures by Chinese artists Wu Shaoxiang and Jiang Shuo were on display in front of the Schütz Art Museum, which is located on the Danube.
