New Year's Eve in the mountains

After driving away from the beach, we reached the Drakensberg after a few hours. The surroundings invited us to go hiking right away. We grilled on New Year's Eve and admired the scenery. Unfortunately, my sparklers were taken out of my suitcase at Frankfurt airport and the local supermarkets don't sell fireworks, so we had to start the new year without a firework show. On New Year's Day, we went on a four-hour hike. It was around 30°C in the shade, so we were pretty exhausted afterwards. We saw lots of different colorful birds and a large number of protea plants. The protea is the national flower of South Africa. On the second of January, we went on a slightly shorter tour that had more shaded spots. It was beautiful and we didn't see a single soul. Today, we continued our journey and arrived in Ladybrand. Here, we each have our own room. The resort is huge but there is not much around except for KFC. We are only staying here for one night and tomorrow we will continue with a long tour to Cradock, where we want to see mountain zebras.
