While I was staying over easter with family friends in Managua avoiding the high season in the semana santa (Easter week) I figured out where I will go next.
I flew for one week to Nicaraguas paradise on the carribbean side: Corn Islands:
It's as well possible to take a boat ride over several hours (from bluefields) where getting there costs you about 30 dollars. But you have to sleep a night in Bluefields to catch the boat in the morning and I've heard rather bad than good about taking the boat - especially from people with a weak stomach.
So Ive decided to be lazy and fly to Big Corn Island from Managua, Nicaraguas capital.
Big corn
On my boat ride from big to little corn, I've met a German girl so we've spontaneously shared a room with each other at 3 Brothers for 20 dollars. ( By the way: you can pay in Nicaragua with Dollars or Cordoba but it's usually cheaper to pay in the currency of the country ).
On my first day, me and my roomie accidentally took a 3 hour walk around the island and figured that it's one of the smallest islands we've seen so far since we've seen half of it already just by taking the wrong turn.
After our long walk we stopped at Graces place to drink a soda where I've recognized a familiar face.
Somebody we've met in Guatemala in San Marco...so over a month ago. Those things happen to any traveller all the time because everyone is taking the same road down south or north in Central America. But I still think it quite funny how we all want to see the same things on this beautiful planet and keep running into the same amazing people.
What makes little corn so special Is that there are just like on Caye Caulker (Belize) no cars or roads. Nevertheless you'll feel yourself tripping over speed bumps on the side walk, which are for... bicycles?
Once you're on little corn it doesn't take long to notice that the electricity is off from 6am till 1pm because you'll always wake up when the fan stops working.
Otto beachLittle corn was probably my favourite place (with Leon) in Nicaragua because people were very nice and .... somrbody tell me what's not to like about paradise?
So if you go to Nicaragua you should do yourself a favour and visit little corn. I've even met some people who just flew to Nicaragua for this picture perfect paradise.
