After a hearty breakfast, we set off relatively early to Joshua Tree National Park to go for a short hike before the heat gets too intense. The parking lot before the planned trail was empty, we were the only ones eager for a hike 😁 The trail was not particularly strenuous, so we quickly reached the first viewpoints. There were benches on the top of the hills for resting and listening to nature. What we heard was: Nothing. Absolute silence, no birds, no insects, nothing. Along with breathtaking views.
Only during the descent did we occasionally hear a cricket, but that was about it. Apart from two little geckos, we didn't see any other animals.
After the partially colorful and loud experiences of the past days, this was very relaxing.
At noon, we arrived at Hesperia with Calvin (our oldest son, who is studying there for 3 months) and his host family, who had invited us to stay overnight. After much joy at the reunion and a shared dinner with the family, we spent the evening with pleasant conversations.
