Warnemünde – one of Germany’s hotspots for cruise ships…?

It's hard to believe, but according to Wikipedia, Warnemünde is the largest cruise port in Germany. With more than 760,000 passengers per year (in 2016), it seems to even surpass Hamburg. Who would have thought that - we certainly wouldn't.

The interim fact check showed that this is not true, as Hamburg is the largest "transshipment port for cruise passengers" with over 1 million passengers in 2023. Show us not to believe everything you read on the internet 😉

We are the only ones in the harbor today. After breakfast, we take advantage of the still overcast but sunny weather that was promised for later to explore Warnemünde and its beach, which is said to be the widest beach on the Baltic coast at 150 meters. You have to see it to be believed...😉

We walk along the beach promenade and pass small shops that are strangely not open at all and tour boats that claim to be able to offer a harbor tour 😉

Not far away you can see the lighthouse, which looks very nice. Next to it is a hall that reminds me of my professional home. With its curved roof, it looks very similar to the Knapsack after-work house, but it was built by a different architect and is called "Teepot".

We stroll along and walk across the beach where a beach handball tournament is taking place.

We continue on to the promenade because we suspect there is a guesthouse here called "Villa Schwalbe" which has often been a holiday home for a friend. The "Villa Schwalbe" is a beautiful, well-kept house in the Art Nouveau style and looks impressive.

On the way back we walk through the small alleys and back to “Poesia”. Our very first visit to the gym is still waiting for us.

So, calories worked off! Now we can move on to the tasty part of the afternoon. We had to go to the cake buffet today because a dear family member had a birthday. We couldn't avoid it... 😉

Otherwise we are waiting for departure at 6pm, the evening buffet (hmmm, delicious...) and then the European Championship match Germany vs. Switzerland. May someone win 😊
