Little mermaid in a big way…

A week after our first arrival in Copenhagen to start the cruise, we stopped again in the city with one of the smallest landmarks in the world.

This time, we once again ignored MSC's shuttle service and did not shy away from the half-hour walk through Copenhagen's quayside area to take the metro from Orientkai in Nordhavn to Osterport station.

From here we went to Kastellet, a star-shaped fortress from the 17th century with ramparts and canals. Very beautifully laid out and with a lawn for picnics or playing with children on the playgrounds.

The actual goal was the small, 125 cm tall mermaid that stands here on a stone on the waterfront promenade and is a magnet for many visitors from different nations. Above all, our Chinese friends... Delays in taking photos are obligatory here...😉

The route continued past St. Alban's Church to the royal family's winter residence, Amalienborg Palace. We had already found out in advance that the royal family was spending the week in Greenland... but they wouldn't have "seen" them anyway, since it's summer...

A short detour to Frederiks Kirke, the marble church in the Rococo style. On the way there we meet a delegation of guards from Amalienborg. Fun fact: the group of 12 guards also had to wait at the intersection until the traffic light man turned green.

The royal theater is located in the nearby harbor. A special highlight in summer is the diving, which takes place from the flat canopy about 30 meters high. A YouTube video shows this very impressively...

The last stop before returning to the ship is the Stromma Canal in Nyhavn. Even more tourists gather here than at the Little Mermaid. Countless sightseeing boats start their tour of the city there.

We quickly escape from the hustle and bustle and go to the nearest metro station to make our way to the ship or rather to the cake buffet...😉
