2024 - October - Berlin - Gardens of the World

Marzahn and its prefabricated housing estate are really not a sight for sore eyes. The then-new residential area, established in 1987 to celebrate the 750th anniversary of Berlin, was intended to be enhanced with a generous green space, leading to the creation of the Berlin Garden Exhibition Marzahn.

The residential complexes and green spaces still stand today, and during the International Garden Exhibition 2017, the area was significantly expanded. The cable car was also added during this expansion.

From the year 2000 onwards, the idea of creating the Gardens of the World here was in development. This resulted in the formation of various designed areas that aim to showcase the diversity of garden cultures.

However, some areas are less convincing. We were particularly disappointed with the Californian Garden: just a few old cars among artistic palms that barely have any palm fronds left – that was it.

Other gardens are more inviting. We particularly enjoyed the various Asian gardens as well as the Christian Garden.

The ride on the cable car is also a little experience and offers a great view of the area. By the way, there is a combination ticket that includes the cable car ride.

Nonetheless, my report is not as enthusiastic as it often is. The trip to Marzahn is quite cumbersome, and the attractions are somewhat limited.

However, the park is quite suitable for daily local recreation.
