EN | Happy to be back on the pedals, we continued our journey westward and reached Drachten in the evening. Unfortunately, the weather did not improve. After spending the night in a B&B, we cycled through a water-rich region and found out that the ferry service had just stopped for the season the day before. Arnaud's vigorous ringing of the ferry bell was in vain. So we had to take a detour through the Dutch countryside, which became increasingly difficult due to the constant wind and rain.
In picturesque villages where tourism flourishes in the summer, almost everything was closed at this time of year. Finally, we were able to get a hotel room in Akkrum and decided to shorten the journey by train. Once again, we loaded our bikes, trailer, and luggage onto the train, which took us to the capital.
In Amsterdam, known for its well-developed bicycle road network, we rented a small cabin at the Zeeburg Campsite. The three days flew by, and after some sightseeing and the obligatory visit to a coffee shop, we realized that we had to end the journey for this year, whether we liked it or not.
So we spontaneously booked two bus tickets to Paris, where we arrived well after a seven-hour journey. Now we will spend the winter with Mom's family and look for work to replenish our travel funds. To be continued...
