Welcome to the Cotswolds, yes, it is pronounced exactly as it is read, which sounds unusual for us.

The Cotswolds is a very popular area in the South-West of England. The area covers over 2000 km^2 and is famous for its villages and small towns in the distinctive stone house style.

a corner of the living room, we will see sheep more often :)

We (a few friends and I) rented a small cottage and spent the weekend together there. In the picture above you can see our cottage. It is also built from the typical stone. Small but nice and very cozy.

For us coming from London, it was a beautiful change. Right in nature, and from my window/ our terrace we had a direct view of a large meadow with sheep. We spent a lot of time on the terrace :D.

After a very delicious breakfast, we took a little walk through the neighborhood on Saturday morning, enjoying the first rays of sunshine and discovering a lot.

a small church

We found a little church just around the corner and of course we had to take a look inside if it was open.

The first walk did all of us good. We just enjoyed the beautiful weather. Autumn showed itself from its most beautiful side.

In the afternoon, we headed to the small town. Stow-on-the-Wold.

Stow-on-the-Wold is one of the most famous locations in the Cotswolds. In Old English, it literally means 'town on the hill'. The area is very picturesque and, as the name suggests, elevated, one of the highest points in the area (700 feet). In earlier times, this town was one of the largest centers for the wool trade and was able to achieve great wealth as a result.

In Stow-on-the-Wold, I fell in love with the doors. Beautiful and interesting doors everywhere. For example, this one. An entrance to the church framed by two very old and large yew trees.

Besides a church, there are many antique shops, pubs, charity shops, and cafes to be found in the town, and the streets have some very beautiful names, like these:

But above all, we enjoyed simply walking through nature, watching sheep, and admiring the beautiful view.
