Our little excursion yesterday made us want more, so today we went for a longer ride. We covered about 50km at a speed of 30-40km/h, cruising around the island. According to Nora, the best thing about riding a scooter is that you don't have to walk :) ... admittedly, that's a good reason in this heat! We even used our scooter to get to breakfast. By the way, it's wonderful not having meals included in the hotel booking, because we get to decide every day when and what we want to eat, and we constantly try out new restaurants.
We started off on the scooter heading towards the southern tip of the island. However, we didn't make it all the way down because there's a luxury resort that claims that area and the access is controlled by a gate...apparently, they could tell that we weren't guests :)
So we turned around and headed towards Langkawi's capital, Kuah. The road was right by the sea, lined with trees, providing nice shade, and overall very well built. There were very few people on the road, which made the ride very pleasant. In general, people here are more relaxed when it comes to speeding. No pushing or risky overtaking...like it often happens in Thailand. And driving on the left side of the road is no longer a problem.
It feels amazing to be able to drive here. On our journey, we rarely visit tourist hotspots, and with the scooter, we can explore the surroundings on our own and not have to follow any organized tour groups.
We even saw monkeys on the way, playing in the shade at the side of the road.
Back at Cenang Beach, the sky became quite cloudy, so instead of going to the beach, we decided to go to the hotel for now. We'll wait out the rain and maybe go for a swim later...or tomorrow. No one's rushing us :) In the meantime, we're playing "Sorry!" on the balcony.
PS: Uploading pictures here is such a pain! Most of the time, the connection is not strong enough or it takes minutes to upload a single picture 🙈 I hope we'll have better internet soon so that we can share more pictures! 👍
