Temple Marathon and new friends

Ayuttaya is definitely worth a visit. That much can be said! And since we only had one full day there, we went full speed with the cultural program. After breakfast, we rented a tuk-tuk and the driver took us from temple to temple for 3 hours, where we could stroll around in peace. At first, Nora was in good spirits, but after temple No. 4, the longing for a swim in the pool grew stronger. So, as the last stop, we visited a floating market. That was somehow cool, because it was something different. Various delicacies were sold from floating stands. Among other things, there were shoes with the motif of the Ice Queen - not even in the farthest corner of Thailand are you safe from them! And so, Nora is now the proud owner of glittering Anna & Elsa flip-flops :)

Back at the hotel, of course, we went to the pool, a fair balance for 3 hours of sightseeing. We enjoyed it for quite a while before we set off again in the late afternoon for a boat tour organized by the hotel. Temple visits were on the agenda again. We didn't find them as exciting anymore, but the boat ride was great. At a jetty, Chinese tourists fed the fish - with chips, bags full of them. The Chinese sometimes have a screw loose, but it was still a spectacle, because these fish were huge and darn greedy!

And as a conclusion to the day, we were let loose at the night market to stuff ourselves with local delicacies at incredibly low prices.

On the boat, we met a Swiss family, the children immediately became friends and were even allowed to sit right at the front of the boat, they were so proud :-) Later, we went to the night market together and due to a lack of taxis (I've never experienced anything like it in Thailand - not a single taxi in sight), we decided to walk home together. Thanks to Google Maps, we found our way - but that was an adventure in itself! Dark alleys and stray dogs startled us a few times. But after 15 minutes, we finally made it.

This morning, we had to leave the really beautiful hotel again to make the journey back to Bangkok. The host's father played the role of the taxi driver and took us to the train station. That's also where we saw once again what the Thais think of seat belts. The car was far from new, but the seat belts were still wrapped in plastic!

At the train station, we were able to spontaneously buy a ticket for the return journey - this time in 3rd class, which was much busier, but still a very relaxed way to travel. And the prices were also marvelous: 60 cents for the entire train ride. The subsequent subway ride in Bangkok was 5 times more expensive :-)))

But well, now we are in the hotel near the airport, from where we will fly to Singapore tomorrow morning. We are curious to see what awaits us there!
