The result of 3 days of heavy snowfall in Niseko
The result of 3 days of heavy snowfall in Niseko

Ohaiooo ...
It has been 7 days since we arrived in the ski metropolis of Japan, 'Niseko'. This is probably the most international place in Japan, with about 5000 inhabitants. Here we will spend the next months of our lives.

The 'vibe' that this place exudes is simply crazy. No matter who we meet, everyone wants to know who we are, why we are here in the 'dead season' in mid-November, and where we come from. The community of seasonal workers here is great. Everyone makes us feel welcome.
Especially in the bars, we quickly find connections, probably because consuming cold drinks is definitely one of our strengths. In any case, more than adhering to Japanese etiquette:

We enter houses with shoes on, we blow our nose into tissues, use toilet paper, shake hands with people, and don't eat rice in the mornings - but we're working on it!

While we wait for the opening of the ski resort and our first days of work, the Siberian jet stream has already paid a visit and covered the place with tons of snow within 3 days. For Julian and me, who grew up in the Westerwald, this is nothing new (in November), we occasionally experience this in August as well. But our city boy is still struggling with it...

Besides hiking in the snow, we have spent the week preparing for the season:

In December, we will start our seasonal jobs here. Kevin and I ended up at 'Niseko Pizza' and will work there as a bartender and waiter, respectively. Lukas will entertain guests at the 'Freeride Lodge'. Our accommodations for the next months are also secured. So there's not much that can go wrong, and we are well prepared for the start of the ski season tomorrow morning.

We can't wait to finally see the place from the mountain!!
