The Magical Archipelago

After a peaceful night, today's program includes sports and culture. I explore the Limski Canal with my bike. This 10-kilometer-long sea arm is not a fjord, but an ancient river valley, namely the end of the Lim Valley that the river Pazinčica has dug here over millions of years. Due to its brackish water rich in acids and minerals, mussel and fish farming is possible here. The primeval landscape was also the backdrop for Viking films like Die Wikinger and Raubzug der Wikinger! Overall, it is magical and mysterious here. It is said that the pirate Jack Morgan buried his treasures here. And centuries ago, Saint Romualdo lived here as a hermit. By the way, the name Limski indicates that the border between Pula and Poreč used to run here.

I enjoy the peaceful biking through the Kontija Forest Reserve. The route 171 of Istria-Bike is very well marked. Suddenly, the route ends at the dilapidated St. Michael's Monastery. This is where I turn around. But before I ride back, I descend the ancient steps of the monastery to the canal. I enjoy the solitude and contemplate here for some time...

I make my way back on a parallel forest road, as it mostly goes downhill, I fly towards my destination.

After a short, hot shower, I enjoy the sunset and dream of future holiday experiences!
