This morning, for the first time on this tour, it was overcast and cool. So put on another jacket and one more during the first breakfast break...

Cooking on the go

First, we go back to the planned route along the Oise, then back on a railway embankment by noon. After lunch, the scenery changes: EuroVelo 3 runs along the 'canals de la Sambre a la Oise', for almost 40 km the scenery remains the same: the canal is not navigated (is there a boating ban in France on Saturdays, a kind of 'Saturday boating ban'?), it goes straight on almost all the time, the cycle path runs left or right; every change is celebrated.

At some point we reach Tergnier, which we had identified as a larger town in the hope of finding accommodation, camping or similar. But everything turned out differently: while we were looking for a café in Tergnier (and didn't find one), we settled in on the square in front of the town hall and a church and frequented all the internet channels: where to sleep? Where can we celebrate Holy Mass tomorrow? The discussions went back and forth. Finally, it turned out that the community whose church we were sitting in front of would hold the evening mass shortly afterwards; we visited it and there we were approached by Deacon Piere France, asking if we were pilgrims (yes) and if we had accommodation for the night (no!!!), he offered us the parish hall, where there is a room for pilgrims.

Done deal; people like Piere are angels!
