Arriving in Bishkek, we were initially overwhelmed by the hospitality - everyone offers their help, is very friendly and accommodating! Right after changing out of our travel clothes into light summer outfits, we set out - in search of an ATM and a breakfast place. We found the latter on every corner, but finding an ATM proved difficult for a Mastercard.
So we had breakfast in the form of nan - a delicious flatbread - drinks, cookies, and apricots - eaten on the street!
The temperatures rose rapidly by midday, but after finding the essentials, we went to the Philharmonia and the amazing water fountains!
Childhood memories - swimming in fountains at 40°C - now my children could experience it too!
We were blown away by the well-kept city, everything shines and is clean - even the remote streets with a thousand potholes are carefully swept!
In every small shop - and there is at least one on every corner here - you can buy fruits, vegetables, dairy products, flatbread, warm dishes, and various beverages at low prices. And now our children also know what sun-ripened apricots and watermelons taste like!
Totally exhausted, we fell into our beds late in the afternoon - after missing a whole night! Only in the late evening did we wake up to play a round of cards and - as it should be - eat watermelon with tandoori flatbread - and then fall back into our beds!
