'Every acquaintance, every sympathetic encounter is a gain.' (Ricarda Huch).
In the past few days, we have been traveling a lot by scooter. In doing so, we explored the island and were able to immerse ourselves a little in the lives of the people. The difference between the coastal regions and the interior of the island is very impressive. While there is a lot of forest growing along the coast, reminiscent of a rainforest, the vegetation in the interior of the island is very sparse. It is mainly characterized by mountainous highlands. Here, mainly farmers who breed animals live.
Today we visited a waterfall. Here we made a great acquaintance with the locals. They, like us, were swimming at the waterfall. Together we laughed a lot, exchanged our cultures, and bathed together. We also learned that not all mangoes are the same, but that there is a wide range of varieties. Mark, one of the locals, shared his 'Indian-Mango' with us. This great acquaintance has taught us a lot and is a gain.
The waterfall is actually azure blue and the water is crystal clear. However, it rained heavily for several hours last night, which caused it to take on a brownish hue. Despite the 33-degree temperature, the water was wonderfully refreshing.
