Stage: from Lindau via Friedrichshafen to Meersburg
total distance: 50 kilometers
Finally, the time has come: Mom and I set off with our car and bicycles to Lake Constance, which we wanted to circle in 4 stages. Actually, I already gave this to my mom as a Christmas present in 2018, but nothing has happened so far.
So we started driving at 8:00 and arrived in Lindau at 12:00, where we looked for a parking lot and immediately set off. At first, we got a little lost in Lindau before finding Lake Constance and our cycle path.
Because it was the first really beautiful and warm day, and also a Sunday, there were so many people. There was even a bike jam at a level crossing. We started our tour along the lake. And because the lake was glittering so beautifully, we took a break after just a few kilometers and had our provisions.
The route led through many very touristy places, passing apple orchards. This has the advantage that the cycle paths are really outstandingly well-developed, but on the other hand, it's really damn busy.
Due to stomachache, we stopped several times and were able to admire a beautiful bridge and a place with a castle. In Friedrichshafen, we deviated from the route and visited a relative with his wife and children. We hadn't announced ourselves, so they were very surprised to see us and invited us for coffee. Because of the many conversations, we continued much later than expected. We enjoyed the city center of Friedrichshafen, passing by the Zeppelin Museum, many shops, and fountains.
Now we continued along the lake and on a cycle path next to the road. We made good progress in the best weather. Finally, at 18:10, we arrived in Meersburg and checked in immediately. We had completely forgotten to take a Covid test due to excitement. But that didn't matter, we were sent to a test station that was open until 18:30. We were lucky and were tested as the last ones. Of course, negative.
We were able to comfortably move into the room and visit the impressive old town: Lower Town and harbor, the Upper Town with the castle and winery, and many beautiful buildings. Actually, we could also have dinner indoors because it was already cold outside. We enjoyed the view of the lake once again and then strolled back.
