In January of this year, we went on a small weekend trip to Leuven in Belgium. The small city near Brussels doesn't have much to offer, except for a town hall that is beautifully illuminated at night. Also, I had ramen for the first time at a Japanese restaurant, it was very delicious!
The next day, we took a trip to the two major cities in Belgium: Brussels and Antwerp! In Antwerp, we arrived at the beautiful Antwerp train station, which fascinated me. From there, we went through the diamond district to the city center, where we tried Belgian fries and did some shopping.
When we wanted to take the train to Brussels, we were a little surprised because the Antwerp train station is built on multiple levels and can be confusing at first glance. The train to Brussels took 40 minutes, and from there we made our way through the city center. We bought some Belgian chocolate, enjoyed a Belgian waffle, and headed towards the EU district. From up there, you have a beautiful panoramic view of Brussels.
The next day, as a conclusion, we headed to the Ardennes and did something special here. We booked a ride on a draisine, a type of bicycle on rails, and traveled about 4 km to the beginning of the Maredsous Abbey, where monks brew beer and produce cheese. After our return, we drove to the most beautiful place in the Ardennes, the small village of Dinant.
Right at the entrance of the village, we notice the large church built of black stone, which towers omnipresently over the river. Dinant is also the birthplace of Adolphe Sax, the inventor of the saxophone.
