Today, we are heading to the modern waterfront district of Melbourne, the Docklands. The sun is shining and it's 25 degrees Celsius. We have already read that there are many free water dispensers in Australia, and we can confirm this in Melbourne as well. As Swabians, we quickly figure out where we can refill our water bottles for free and don't buy expensive bottled water.
We walk past the Marvel Stadium to the Melbourne Star (a 120-meter-high Ferris wheel) and unfortunately, we find out that it is currently not in operation. We explore the District Docklands a bit more and stroll along the harbor.
The many botanical gardens offer the opportunity to watch the fireworks of Melbourne today. However, we decide to watch the New Year's Eve fireworks at St Kilda Beach. There we have a good view of the Melbourne skyline. We realize that the tram is also free today outside the Free Tram Zone due to New Year's Eve. The Swabian is happy once again. At St Kilda Beach, we find a nice spot with a view of the fireworks. It wasn't as big and impressive as we had imagined, but it was a unique experience to celebrate New Year's Eve at the beach.
