Take it easy like the Hawaiians
Today we're starting the day off nice and slow, without an alarm clock, and yet we're up early again because every day here needs to be taken advantage of with the rather early sunset (6:15 PM)!
Today we're going to visit the so-called Turtle Town, a series of small beach coves here in Maui. They're famous for their numerous Hawaiian green sea turtles - which sounds very appealing to us! After a short hour-long drive, in which we once again admire the amazing Hawaiian landscape - green mountains on the left that look surreal and the ocean on the right - we finally arrive there and first check out the situation without bringing all our snorkeling gear. It quickly becomes clear to us that we probably won't be snorkeling here today. While there are plenty of surfers enjoying the big waves, which they clearly love, these waves don't excite us snorkelers as much because the churned-up sand would make it difficult to see anything underwater.
But we really like the beach, so instead we take a little stroll along the shore and then head back home!
We spend the afternoon at home on the beach, taking it easy - writing postcards, reading, and just relaxing! And when the waves suddenly pick up here too, I have another boogieboarding session, which surpasses my first one on Big Island in terms of wave height and fun. And once again, I'm covered in sand like a breaded wiener schnitzel - good thing the fish there eat a plant-based diet!
Some waves are a bit too big for me though, and we're amazed at the force with which they crash onto the beach!
As we watch the sunset, we once again observe numerous local surfers riding the waves and envy them for their dreamy place of residence!
