Today we had an absolute highlight on the program that we had been really looking forward to in the run-up to our trip to Thailand. Together with a small tour group, we started the so-called 7-island tour at the pier of Koh Phi Phi around 10 a.m.
From there we took a speedboat to the first stop: Monkey Bay. There we were greeted by dozens of smaller and larger monkeys who nibbled relatively calmly on their coconuts. After we took a few snapshots from a safe distance, we continued towards Viking Cave: a large limestone cave with ancient wall paintings, which unfortunately was not allowed to enter for security reasons.
From there we continued to the first longer stop, the Pileh Lagoon. There we were able to marvel at great coral reefs and a wide variety of fish with our snorkeling equipment. Even small sharks swam among us.
After the approximately 30 minute stay we went further into the lagoon by boat. Although this spot was also visited by various other tourists at the same time, we were able to take some great photos and videos.
After a short drive, we reached Maya Bay, which was made famous, among other things, by the film “The Beach” with Leonardo DiCaprio. A beautiful bay with crystal clear water. We were able to take some great photos here too and we will remember this place for a long time.
We continued to the next island: Bamboo Island. The drive here took about 20 minutes. We stopped there for about two hours to eat our packed lunch and explore the island on our own. Here too we were able to marvel at beautiful beaches and turquoise water.
From Bamboo Island we went back towards Phi Phi Island. On the way there we stopped again for a 30 minute snorkeling break.
It was now around 5:30 p.m. and we took the boat very slowly towards the sunset. That was also an unforgettable experience.
After the sun had set, the last highlight of our tour was waiting for us. We drove to a spot where you could see plankton glowing in the dark. By moving our arms and legs quickly, we made it glow together under the surface of the water. Just unbelievable!
After this last highlight, we went back to the pier, where we started our excursion in the morning. Tired but happy, we arrived at the hotel around 7:30 p.m. There we freshened up again and then went out for something to eat.
After dinner, we ended our last day on Koh Phi Phi with a cool drink on the beach.
Koh Phi Phi was one of the biggest highlights on our trip so far, and not just because of today's tour.
