Day 40 to 44 - Bali - The Island of the Gods?

ପ୍ରକାଶିତ |: 16.03.2024

Our first stop in Bali is the hipster town of Canggu, on the west coast, center of co-working spaces, surfers, backpackers and youngsters. Average age feels like 25 years and everyone just wants one thing... to be casual and relax. We want to do nothing for a few days and just chill. The bungalow is lovely with an almost private pool. The breakfast is also great. The place itself is incredibly lively and strange. There is no real center, Canggu is spread over three main streets, but they are far apart from each other. You always have to go everywhere with a scooter 🏍️ 🛵. But since everyone does that, there is total chaos. We're already used to a lot of things, but this is even crazier. After two days on the scooter we give up after it took us almost an hour to get here from Seminjak, 7 km away. We were overtaken on the right, left and on the footpath and turning right in left-hand traffic was an absolute challenge. Canggu has a wonderful long but very dark beach. The waves are huge and currently only the locals dare to get out of the sea 🌊. Swimming is out of the question. If you go into the water up to your calves, the next minute you'll be surprised by a wave and you'll be wet up to your ears. Watching the wind and waves is also nice. The next day we want to look at the beaches in the south on the Uluwatu peninsula and the associated temple on the cliff. It looks great here, but we spend most of the day in the car, the journey there takes 1:45 and the return journey takes well over 2.5 hours, mind you for 30 km. Bali will be drowning in traffic chaos if something doesn't change soon. In addition, there is construction going on everywhere and it is true when there are reports of a huge garbage problem here. Our driver also doesn't speak a single word of English, so we don't find out anything else, which is a shame. The nightlife is pretty cool, every night there is a good party somewhere else, live music and really good food. Last night on the beach in front of Finn's Beach Club there was partying on the beach until 2am.

We are in Canggu for three more days and will enjoy the chill time.
