30.09.2020-Goodbye South Tyrol

30.09.2020

Dear friends,

let's count the good things: it's not raining, it's five degrees warmer outside than yesterday, although that doesn't mean anyone would willingly go out, and thirdly, I'm lying under my warm blanket. Sadly, it was over faster than a sprinting Jaguar, and I was allowed to observe the sunrise, snuggled up in a jacket. After a highly desired tea, we set off to our first destination, Brixen.

Gullible as we are, nothing could stop us from driving straight into the city. After wandering through the whole town for at least half an hour, finding out that the city center follows air pollution guidelines, and that streets that initially only go a tiny bit uphill are always a bad solution for any problem because they wind up like a serpent without a way to turn back, we finally found ourselves on a bus parking lot outside the city. Despite this action, I was still feeling fantastic, but my driver had gone through a good dose of sweat and stress for this early morning.

Brixen is a charming little town with a winding old town and a very magnificent cathedral. The suddenly shining sun illuminated the small winding alleys and lit up the many different shops that lined the roadside. The crowd of people flowing through the entire city miraculously dispersed without creating any congestion, yet the courtyard garden right by the church seemed like a little oasis where all kinds of roses mixed with other useful plants.

Our next stop was Bolzano, the capital of South Tyrol. If anyone ever doubts my general knowledge, I will bombard them with useless facts that I learned on this trip to Italy. This city is also a little treasure with its picturesque old town, the huge market square, and Schüttelbrot, which I struggled to eat but would eat again. Of course, we couldn't get away without a castle, and Paps had to suffer greatly because it turned out that we had to walk very far until we had a nice view. I don't know if it was worth it, but it was definitely funny.

With a grumpy Dad, I strolled through the city, always looking for something to eat, only to end up finding nothing. The temperatures now rose so much that I wasn't sure if my long pants might be too warm. Therefore, we only had a short break in the shade and then we were off again.

Although the road layout was unnecessarily complicated and nerve-wracking, we managed to get out of the city unscathed and I could admire the majestic rocks that bounded our valley again. With a few short breaks, we drove purposefully towards our new place to stay, well, to some extent with a specific destination, it can be better described as: we know which region we want to go to and then we'll see how it goes. While trying to find our new address, we could already see our destination for tomorrow, the Madonna della Corona. What place could better suit our present time than this monastery?

On a motorhome parking lot in Brentino Belluno, we were able to enjoy a fantastic view and of course, we also quickly sniffed around the small village. Today, olive trees and huge vineyards are triggering the right Italian fever in me, and the temperatures will certainly rise even higher than our twenty-five degrees today.

I'm looking forward to it and see you soon.
