Half island circumnavigation

Today is our last day on Kauai. Time to do something. After sleeping in and enjoying a hearty breakfast, we make our way to the Wailua Falls. A twin waterfall, just a few kilometers away from us.

Wailua falls

Unfortunately, we can only see the falls from the bridge, access to the basin is hermetically sealed off. No way to get down there. Drones are also not allowed. Too bad. But Shahaatz doesn't give up so easily. Two curves further, there is no drone flying prohibition sign in sight and zap, a few shots are quickly taken. Then on to Uncle D's Frisbee Shop. Although it's actually more than just a frisbee disc sales shop. In addition to self-made BBQ sauces, there are also delicacies such as brisket, pulled pork, Philly sandwich, and more.

Wait! I'm confused?!?

Are you a BBQ joint, a disc golf store, a food truck, a branded clothing line, a sauce maker, or a liquor store?

...well, the simplest answer is 'YES!'.

But back to me, today I'm also getting a new driver disc (for long distances) and a new putter. After some technical tips from Dustin, we'll put that into action right away at Poipu on a 9-hole course.

Of course, at the best playing time, late noon time at 28 degrees Celsius in the shade but without shade.

Only we can come up with something so crazy, or so we thought, but about halfway through, a few more crazies joined us. The course was pretty easy except for 2 baskets (those were tree tunnels).

The biggest challenge was the wind, Dustin had already told us that. But we fought like professionals. Didn't give ourselves any baskets and in the end, it's not even enough for the amateur class. Shahaatz says I play terribly and with 18 over par, he might be a little bit right. But only a little bit. Besides, I'm working on my new throwing technique. It takes patience and time.

What's really cool here, whether it's at the beach, in parks, or on such "sports fields", there are always clean toilets, changing facilities, and usually drinking water, although with a slight chlorine taste.

After so much movement and sweating, it's time for us to refresh ourselves in the ocean.

Poipu Beach invites us to surf, swim, and sunbathe.

There are worse places in the world.

Unfortunately, at 5:00 PM, we have to pack up because today we still have the sunset at Hanalei Beach on our to-do list, which was skipped yesterday, and the drive there takes about 1.5 hours for about 70 km. But the journey was worth it.

A great ending.

I must say, just between us pastor's daughters, I found the balance between relaxing and sightseeing just right. Shahaatz thought there was too little movement. So, we'll work on that on the next island, on the Island of Hawaii, or better known as the Big Island.

With a delicious meal

we conclude the chapter Kauai.

Now it's time to pack our suitcases.

Afterthought: an attentive reader pointed out that Jurassic Park is spelled with an 'a' - so Jurassic Park. Thank you for that.
