In the morning, we explore the beautifully colorful Breakaways surrounded by rust-colored eucalyptus trees before we hit the road. The first stop takes us to McDermit Rock. Very similar to Wave Rock, but without the wave and without people. Just us - and the bush flies😳
The second stop is at Lake Johnston. The salt lake is completely dry at this time of year. That's a good thing because it creates a uniquely bizarre scenery.
The longest stretch is on the Victoria Rock Road, a 4WD track that leads to Coolgardie. And from there, back on asphalt, to Kalgoorlie. The drive on the Victoria Rock Road is particularly diverse due to the varied color of the soil, the diversity of eucalyptus trees, and the traces of the recent bushfires.
The arrival in the gold mining town of Kalgoorlie initially disappoints us. Pretty dead everywhere. Getting a coffee turns out to be a bigger challenge! In the evening, things get better when we enjoy a feast at Paddy's Steak and then reserve ice-cold beer from scantily clad girls in the bar of the Exchange Hotel.
