It's really frustrating... being so far above the Arctic Circle and looking enviously at photos of the snowy homeland. We're not lacking in cold weather - it's been -16°C since the weekend and even the mighty Altevatn is almost completely frozen over. But without snow, it doesn't do us much good, because training is impossible on the glossy surface. This combination of cold and dryness is truly exhausting for both humans and animals... the paths and roads are extremely icy and turn training into a slippery adventure, after 2 hours of training, hands and feet start feeling disconnected from the body, 84 dogs have to be watered several times a day with a meat-water soup, as the normal drinking water freezes quickly in bowls and buckets. Since the beginning of November, the sun hasn't been able to make it over the mountain peaks, so some snow would be very welcome to brighten up the rather dreary landscape ;)
But today, it's time to make dog food again - the third time since I arrived. I have to admit, digging through the butchers' waste with less and less enthusiasm, but at least it keeps me warm! :D
