12th day 01.08.2016 vancouver Island Sidney - sunny

After a very relaxing and peaceful night, we again admired the magnificent view from the bedroom when we woke up. It was once again a cloudless sky, with the prospect of the best summer weather.

Today was a public holiday in Canada, so it was a long weekend being Monday. After our hosts served us a magnificent breakfast (yogurt, fresh fruit, omelette, croissant), we discussed the day's plan. Originally, we planned to go to Victoria and explore the city. However, after seeing how crowded the streets were yesterday and with such beautiful summer weather ahead, we had no desire to visit a big city and decided to drive to Sidney and spend the rest of the day at the beautiful B&B.

After breakfast, we quickly headed to Sidney, which was only a 15-minute drive away. The town is a ferry port for trips to the USA and is located on the east side of the peninsula. It has beautiful houses with front gardens and seems to be the retirees' residence of the wealthier BC residents. We strolled along the promenade and browsed through the many small shops (there was also a very well-stocked bookstore), enjoyed an ice cream, and bought salmon and salad for dinner. Then we went to refuel the rental car and headed back to our beautiful residence.

There, we spent the rest of the day chilling in the sun by the sea. The owners also had a paddle boat, which we tried out and took a ride through the bay, everything was dreamlike.

In the evening, we fired up the gas grill on the terrace and grilled delicious salmon. We had salad, baguette, wine, water, and a view of the sea. Just fantastic. Today, we were also able to admire the sunset, including dragonflies and hummingbirds.

That's how our time on Vancouver Island ended - and honestly, I regret not having stayed longer. Maybe I'll come back here someday.
