Somewhere over the Rainbow

Sunday morning, similar setting as the day before, but with sunshine. I sat in the common room having breakfast. Next to the kitchen, the television dominated the room, 'Sex and the City' was playing, followed by a conversation with James about his vegan lifestyle and Charles Bukowski, and then someone watched 'The Nanny'. I had to get out. Greenwich Village was on the agenda.

The neighborhood, one of the oldest districts, invited for a Sunday walk with its winding streets, charming cafes and boutiques, and some sights. The term sights also included illustrious places like the house from the series 'Friends' and Carrie Bradshaw's film apartment. Gentrification had fully rolled over the neighborhood.

The historic center was Christopher Street, where a revolt in front of the Stonewall Inn in 1969 initiated the self-liberation of gays and lesbians.

I spent my leisure hour in a rainbow bar. Happy hour, $6 margaritas, along with a lively drag queen who drunkenly hosted a bingo tournament. An authentic spectacle, while the clearance sale continued outside.

Had New York exhausted itself, as a friend suggested? I enjoyed the day very much, but I could feel my enthusiasm waning. My flight to LA on Tuesday was already casting its shadow.
