The Mistico Hanging Bridges

Maxxanfame: 09.11.2019

If the weather was quite nice when we arrived in La Fortuna, it is now raining more and more. The influence of the Caribbean is strongly noticeable in this area around La Fortuna.

Today we want to visit another highlight in the area. Our destination are the hanging bridges.

We pack rain capes as a precaution, it has been raining all night and it looks like there is more to come in the morning.

We also have mosquito spray in our luggage. However, I have the feeling that the mosquitoes find the spray on me really sexy and delicious. I'm completely bitten. In an area where dengue fever can occur, not so great. But what can I do. The mosquitoes just love me.

With Canoa Aventura, our path leads us to the base of the Arenal Volcano. There, in the middle of the jungle, the bridge system was built so that you can see and experience the tropical rainforest from various perspectives.

The trail is about 3 km long and has 10 solid and 6 hanging bridges. The highest is located at 45 meters height.

On the walk, we once again experience the incredibly beautiful nature of Costa Rica, which almost provides an overdose of green.

We don't see any animals, but just the walk through the park is worth the $23 entrance fee.

The hanging bridges are quite shaky, but everything is well secured and even I, who suffer from fear of heights, was able to walk across the bridges without any problems.

The humidity in the forest is incredibly high. The temperatures are constantly changing. Sometimes it's extremely hot, then it's quite cool again. It's a big challenge for the body.

At the end of the hike, we hope to catch a glimpse of the star of the region, the Arenal Volcano, but it is being elusive today and remains covered in clouds.

Tomorrow we will head to the Pacific coast.
