Swakopmund

From Spitzkoppe, I drove to Swakopmund on Saturday, with just about 45,000 inhabitants, the 4th largest city in Namibia, located directly on the Atlantic Ocean. However, if you look at the streets and house names here, you might think you're in Germany! There is the Hafenstraße, Strandstraße, Am Zollamt, ... And the houses are called 'Altstadthof', 'Brückendorf' or 'Löwenhof'!

I arrived in the early afternoon, set everything up and headed towards the city center along the beach. There are beach villas here, wow, they can definitely compete with Malibu! Anyone who has a place here has made it in life! In general, Swakop, as it is lovingly called here, is one of the most beautiful cities in Namibia and if I were allowed to live in this country, I would definitely want to live here!

You can walk for kilometers along the beach here! There is also a beach for swimming that stretches just as far. However, hardly anyone swims here. A frigid cold current from Antarctica flows along here, and the water rarely gets warmer than 18 degrees Celsius, and B unfortunately the water doesn't look very clean... It is mostly covered with a brownish shimmering foam carpet...

Aside from that, from the pier, you have an incredibly beautiful view of the sunset!

In Okapuka, I had already met a young German-Namibian named David, who also wanted to be in Swakop during that time, so we arranged to meet for a beer! He suggested the bar right next to my campsite. Good for me, I didn't have to go far afterwards! =P

He suggested going for a quad biking tour through the desert the next day. Good plan! I was in! ;) So we met again the next day for 1 1/2 hours of quad biking up and down the dunes! The supposed top speed of 48 km/h feels like driving at 200 km/h on an old worn out highway in a car! =D

Back in the city, we went up to the tower of the Woermann House. From up here, you have an incredible panoramic view of the city! Perfect for some great photos from above! =D

We went back to the pier for the sunset and after dinner, we went for another beer at the bar.

Then my time in Swakop was already over and the next day it was time to head towards Sossusvlei! =)
