Our second leg in Vietnam started in Hoi An, a city in the south of Vietnam with a beautiful old town.
Hoi An is also known as the city of lanterns. They are visible everywhere and illuminate the streets in wonderfully warm light.
Unfortunately, the weather was not so good with us on the first day. Our bike tour and the boat ride had to take place in the rain. The next day was fortunately dry, so we could explore the old town on foot. We also visited a noodle cooking class to expand our knowledge of Vietnamese cuisine.
Just a 4-hour bus ride away is the city of Hue, which is located roughly in the middle of Vietnam. During our stay, we visited the pagoda and the royal citadel, among other things. We combined both with a boat trip on the Perfume River.
The second to last stop in Vietnam was Halong Bay in the far north. With the second night train, in which I didn't have to share my bed with cockroaches, we reached Hanoi at dawn and traveled to the coast by bus.
We took a boat, which we had all to ourselves, and cruised around the bay while doing a kayaking tour through the lagoons.
Lastly, our journey took us to the capital city, Hanoi. Exploring the 'themed' streets was very interesting and sometimes curious. 😅
But we also had a varied cultural program. Among other things, we visited the mausoleum of Ho Chi Minh, the prison in the middle of the city, and the Temple of Literature.
All in all, the trip through Vietnam was a fantastic experience that has awakened the desire to see more of this country.
