As it was on the way to our next destination, Venice, we made a stopover in Florence. However, finding a parking spot was already a major challenge as there were traffic limits and restrictions on where we could drive. But we eventually found a parking garage about 2 km away from the cathedral. But more challenges were still to come: it was very hot and crowded with people. The cathedral was really beautiful to look at (from the outside). Admission was free, but the line was so long that you would have to wait in the sun for at least an hour. So we decided not to go inside and instead strolled through the city to the Palazzo Vecchio, which is now the town hall. It reminded us a lot of Siena - just bigger ;-) After treating ourselves to some ice cream there - which was probably the most expensive in our vacation, costing 22 euros for 3 scoops each :-o - we continued to the Ponte Vecchio, where shops are built directly on the bridge. They were really interesting buildings. On the way back, we saw a carousel, of course the kids had to ride on it.
