The morning today came a bit gray. As announced, it was supposed to rain today, but it was still nice and warm.
So we decided to take advantage of the opportunity and visit Miami's largest mall. We went to the Dolphins Mall, which is in the immediate vicinity of IKEA. On the way there, we passed by the impressive cruise terminals where the 'Anthem of the Seas' was. A huge ship.
What caught our attention yesterday and today in the mall - the official language here is more Spanish than English. It's somehow peculiar but also a whole new side of the USA for us. After all, we are in the Caribbean.
The mall is very big and very beautiful, and we made some good purchases. It's a good thing that there is still plenty of space in our suitcases.
Then we continued south, the rain stayed with us until shortly before Key Largo. This is the largest of the over 200 coral islands that together form the famous Florida Keys over almost 300km. They are connected by 42 bridges on the US Highway 1. It's really hard to capture the whole thing in pictures because you can't capture this unique appearance nearly as well as it actually is. Breathtaking, unique, and beautiful. A highway through the open sea. We are constantly accompanied by pelicans flying next to us in formation.
In Key Largo, we checked in at the Waterside Suites & Marina today. From the outside, it's rather unspectacular, and of course, typical here it's on stilts (hurricane and flood risk). But when we entered the suite, it was amazing at the back. We have a large balcony and right behind it, there is a canal system from which fishing boats and diving tours started. Also, palm trees and now even sunshine. Fantastic. Across the street, there is a restaurant where we even got live music delivered to us later.
We then bought some breakfast items at the Family Dollar and ended the evening on our balcony. Oh, I forgot, our suite had 2 floors today and we are enjoying everything to the fullest. Tomorrow the sun is supposed to arrive for real... see you then.
