11/10/2019 Mt. Guy, Lake Clearwater

Maxxanfame: 13.10.2019

This morning, Mike made us toast using a fire. Jenny was in charge of making fried eggs and cappuccinos.

We started the morning with a delicious breakfast. The sun is shining and we are going to go hiking today.

5 km from our campsite, Lake Camp, is Lake Clearwater. We initially planned to hike around the 10 km trail around the lake. However, when we arrived, we discovered more hiking trails and decided to choose a different walk. We wanted to hike up Mt. Guy, which is 1369 m high and very steep. The weather was great and there were even clouds on top of Mt. Guy, which means we will be hiking into the clouds.

The trail was really challenging and quite steep. Fortunately, we bought good hiking shoes in Christchurch, and they have already proven to be worth it.

We were just 3 trail markers away from reaching the summit when it started pouring rain. The wind got stronger and unfortunately, we had to turn back because safety comes first.

The descent was wet, windy, cold, and slippery... We arrived at our van soaking wet and, as a result, we were freezing.

The current condition at the campsite? Wet, windy, cold, exhausted, and hungry.

Mike was a hero. Jenny was already snuggled up inside the van, and he braved the weather outside, made tea, and cooked food. We ate inside the van because we have converted it in such a cool way that we can sit inside even in bad weather.

After eating, we postponed the dishes to the next morning and snuggled up, playing Candy Crush on our phones :-D.
