The apartment has been given up, most of the household has been given away or stored, and after many emotional goodbyes, the time has come: we have set off.
We have decided to start our journey nearby, in the Saxon Switzerland region, instead of flying directly to the South Seas or Asia, in order to say farewell in peace and give the soul time to embark on its journey.
Accompanied by parents and our child, we set off in summery temperatures with backpacks that were naturally way too heavy, from Rathen to Lilienstein and Königsstein, and finally to Papstdorf. Since we hadn't asked for the code for the key safe of the DAV hut beforehand, we found ourselves standing in the dark at 21:30 when we finally arrived. Fortunately, we were able to reach the hut warden before we set up our tent for our first night, and he told us the magical 4 digits.
Since the hut was so beautiful and our motivation to carry the backpacks again was not that great, we decided to stay here for another night (what a freedom - yay!) and go for a "small" hike without our luggage. Thanks to a delayed train for the return journey and the missed last bus to Papstdorf, it turned into 35,000 steps. We might need to work on those "small" hikes.
But tomorrow we will really continue according to plan to Jetřichovice in the Bohemian Switzerland, promised!
During the first few days, we were still completely overwhelmed by the many good wishes that were given to us for the journey. That makes it easier to handle the occasional unplanned detour.
