A castle in New Zealand

Maxxanfame: 08.12.2023

The vehicle change went without any problems and I had already moved into my new home by 9 a.m. Which means something like: everything was in the new camper, but I couldn't move around in it at first because everything was just all over the place. So I had to quickly sort out the chaos and put everything away. Because I can only drive off when everything is in the cupboards. If there is something lying around, it will roll around while driving 😀.

When you start the car, the question is: Does this car drive better? Mhhh, well, either it drives better or I've already gotten used to it🤷🏼‍♀️...

After clearing out, we go back to the supermarket, which isn't that easy with such a huge part. Either I need two parking spaces in a row or I'm halfway in the lane. This time it was definitely the second...

Today we're going to Dunedin. And because I can leave so early, I also have time to see something. The first part of the route is already familiar to me from yesterday...

When I arrive in Dunedin, I first visit the steepest street in the world. And there we have it again: the steepest, the biggest, etc... 😀

But this road is really very steep, the maximum gradient is 35%. Of course you can't show this in pictures. There are already coaches and other campers on the road. The street is just a celebrity.

Then we go to Larnach Castle. The path is an endurance test for the car: the road is narrow and goes uphill. But this time there are no problems.

Larnach Castle is described as New Zealand's only castle. At the entrance to the parking lot I have to pay my entrance fee and the cashier asks me where I come from. "Germany" "Oh really. There are so many beautiful castles in Germany and you come here, to our little castle?"

The castle is small, but nice. Built in 1871, it looks magnificent, but was completely restored a few years ago. There is also a small garden surrounding the castle, with countless colorful plants. Someone really has a green thumb!

After the visit we go back down the mountain and to the campsite. I'm staying here for 2 nights because tomorrow I want to see Dunedin. The campsite is about 3.5km from the center. When I ask at the campsite about a bus connection for tomorrow, I get the following answer: "Tomorrow? There are no buses?" "Aha. Because it's Sunday?" "No, tomorrow is the Santa parade!" “Tomorrow is what?” "Santa Parade, here comes Santa Claus and in front of him a whole parade runs through the city." Ahhhh yes, then I know what I'm going to see tomorrow - I can also walk the 3.5km into the city...
