Day 6 From Grenzbaude to Ostrov Camping

Publisert: 07.08.2021

My things are well dried. I set off at 7 am and strapped the beast back on. Where is a post office, the backpack needs to be lighter.

I put on my shorts and want to summon the sun.

And again we go along the border, on the right is a stream and the Forststeig is a muddy and watery desert. It has definitely rained too much.

In the morning I made a detour to the Taubenteichbiwak, which I reached after 60 minutes. Everything is underwater here too. What a rainy summer.

After 2 hours I see a house (hotel). I was hoping for a delicious breakfast or something else to eat. No luck, only cold drinks are available.
So I ordered half a liter of beer. 7 beers = 1 meal
The landlord wanted 1.20 euros for the beer. Great, I have to move.

Continuing through forests and clear-cut areas in the Czech Republic.

The beast pulls on my shoulders and it's time for a break. There is a tree stump where I can place the backpack when setting it down.
Now quickly checked Komoot to see if I have to keep going or when a turn is coming. The Czechs are quite sparse with the markings and there hasn't been a tree for 1 km.
And behold, I should have turned left 50 meters ago. I would never have seen the stake at the back in the bushes and would have continued straight ahead.

There are hardly any springs and rivers here in Czech Republic, but I hear something splashing and refill my water supplies (of course with the water filter).
And who is coming my way and doesn't know where to go? The two Berlin girls. We have the same destination, the campsite in Ostrov.
Since I'm slower, I said, see you later I'll wait for you.

The path to the high Schneeberg is mega exhausting. I have to work my way up over 723 m on a gravel road. At some point I can't go on anymore, I unstrap the beast and lie down for half an hour.

Now it's going on and just before the destination it starts to rain lightly. Then I see a lookout tower and a restaurant and who's sitting there eating? The two Berlin women.

I'm also hungry and here I can get a hunter's schnitzel with side dishes for only 6 euros.
The landlord doesn't take debit or credit card and what do I have? Of course my 200 euro bill. He can probably exchange it up here in the middle of nowhere.

I ask him and he said, no problem and gives me a bunch of 5s and 10s as change. The day is saved and the belly is full.

The girls are heading down and I enjoy my meal. How it tastes after 3 days of instant noodles.

The way back is also going downhill well and Barni Geröllheimer has wreaked havoc here and declared a bunch of stones as a path.
The never-ending rain does the rest and so caution is advised with the porcelain box.

It took me 2 hours to cover the 6km to Ostrov.

Arriving at the campsite, the rain stopped and I set up my tent for 3 nights.

Showers and toilets in a container. Well, that's how it is. Had a nice warm shower and enjoyed a beer on the restaurant terrace. Then off to bed.

Insight of the day:
No way is too far when you have your goal in sight. Just keep going.
