At 8:15 a.m., everyone who had booked Cecilia Wigley's excursion, like me, gathered at the Safari Club. Shortly afterwards, a free shuttle bus took us the long way from the ship to the terminal building. Our actual tour bus was waiting for us there.
The first destination of our city tour was the futuristic "Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències", a magnificent work by the architect Calatrava. We then drove to the center of the city.
We got out there and were guided through the city for two hours. We had thirty minutes of free time at the central market. I used this time to look inside the huge market hall and admire the huge range of fish, fruit, vegetables and other local products. I bought and ate a delicious pastry and returned to our group refreshed.
We finished our city tour around midday. We took a bus to our final destination, a restaurant right on the beach. We sat outside under parasols and enjoyed something like "wild potatoes", then fried squid and paella with chicken, rabbit and seafood, followed by ice cream for dessert. A non-alcoholic drink was included in the menu. I wanted to treat myself and my table neighbors and got a liter jug of sangria. Demand was limited, and I was allowed to drink the sangria alone except for one glass.
In a correspondingly good mood, I had myself driven back to the ship, lay down on my bed and fell asleep immediately.
I overslept dinner, but woke up in time for a performance by the string trio and the late show by the "Emperors of Soul".
