Yesterday we actually didn't do anything anymore. I went to the supermarket again to buy myself dinner - I didn't want to go to a restaurant alone for various reasons and take-aways are not common on the promenade.
Then I had oatmeal (finally!!! <3), coconut milk (we don't have a refrigerator here, so we can't store fresh products...), cookie supply and chips.
When I prepared the oatmeal in my bowl I bought at Decathlon in Delhi, Jonas immediately became attentive and when I was busy on my phone, both my portion of oatmeal and the contents of the chip bag magically decreased :p :D :D
Then the night was okay. It started early and we still slept until 8 o'clock this morning. It was quite humid and warm but under the fan it was as always pleasantly cool :)
For breakfast we had the classic. I made a snake out of pills and banana pieces for Jonas and I had toast with chocolate cream and banana. It's incomprehensible how Jonas could refuse the toast and the chocolate cream... ;-)
After breakfast we rested a bit and filled the bottles. Our hostel kindly provided a 20-liter drinking water dispenser on the terrace, which all guests can use. Jonas and I are almost a bit shy now because we pull out up to 4 liters per person daily there but hey. Drinking water is important^^
Then at 10:30 am we went to buy bananas. On the way there we had fun taking pictures of all the sayings that the Puccinilala Cafe, which is located opposite our hostel, has written on the walls. It is an alternative cafe with vegan dishes and an eco-hotel. So all the sayings revolve around the theme and accompany you through the alleyways until you reach the main street. Really cool :)
At the banana stand we wanted to have the same bananas as the first time but again we were told that these yellow bananas were not ripe. Okay...Instead we got much smaller bananas, but they only cost 40 Rupees instead of 90 Rupees, so everything is fine^^
The way to the banana stand takes about 15 minutes, so we were back at the hostel in less than half an hour and Jonas realized that he needed a break.
Before that he had talked about going to the beach today and he still wanted to go but I denied him the fun. Bed rest until he feels better again. We still have 11 days for that, because that's how long we will stay here and it would be really great if we leave India healthy ;-)
While Jonas rested a bit, I walked back and forth in our room. I remembered Chirk Castle, where Wiebke had worked during our stay in Wales, and that the rich people in Great Britain back then had "walking rooms" where they could walk back and forth in bad weather to get a little exercise :D
The stupid thing about our bungalow is that we don't have fly screens, so we have to keep the door and curtains in front of the open windows all day. This makes it dark inside (light is a bit wasteful of electricity, and the power goes out anyway^^) and also the air is stagnant when the fan stops due to power failure. That's a bit annoying and walking outside is a minefield because the mosquitoes love me <3 :D
Well, anyway. At some point Jonas developed a craving for pizza and since we are happy about anything he has an appetite for, we went to eat around 1 pm, at the ABBA restaurant. The menu there offers everything: Indian, Burger + Fries, Italian, Israeli, Swedish (???!!!)... And the prices were great! The restaurant, like almost all of them here, is located directly on the promenade and from the covered veranda you have a fantastic view of the sea. So we can definitely recommend Varkala for its views when eating!!!
The portions were really big. I managed to eat mine and enjoyed the side salad especially. Crazy! Actually, I'm not so fond of salad but it felt really good to eat something so "healthy" (there was a burger too, but at least it was vegetarian^^) after all the cookies, chips and chocolate cream :p
Jonas managed to eat 3/4 of his pizza and will have the rest for dinner later ;-) And maybe there will be oatmeal with coconut milk again. He needs to regain his strength!
When he lies on the bed and watches YouTube or sleeps (which pretty much sums up his daily activities), he's actually doing quite well.
Only his digestion still doesn't want to cooperate :( We will observe everything tonight and tomorrow. If it doesn't get better by then, we will go back to the doctor. As mentioned above, the goal for the rest of our time here in India is for Jonas to get healthy. Everything else (excursions, surfing...) doesn't matter for now.
Thanks at this point also for all the messages via WhatsApp. Jonas is making an effort to get well quickly - if only because he really wants to go back to the beach ;-)
