From Wellington, we took the Interislander Ferry to Picton. This is a beautiful three-hour crossing where you drive through the beautiful Marlborough Sound at the end of the journey.
From Picton, I continued on to Nelson.
On the drive, you pass by many farms where a variety of crops are grown, from grapes and apples to hops and pine trees.
The Nelson region is also known as the 'Sunshine State of New Zealand' as it has the most hours of sunshine. I was not disappointed in this regard, as it did not rain once while I was there.
I used the day in Nelson to explore the city a bit before heading to the Abel Tasman National Park.
